Science Outreach and Communication
Several lab members have participated in outreach events at the LSU Museum of Natural Science, including the annual Kids’ Day at the Museum event.
Dr. Lattin is very involved with the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB), and is currently the Chair of the Student/Postdoctoral Affairs Committee. She has also served the society as Secretary (from 2021-2023) and Student/Postdoc Representative (2015-2017) of the Division of Comparative Endocrinology.
As a faculty member at LSU, Dr. Lattin developed and taught a new graduate course called Science Communication for Biologists. As part of this course, she and her students created a class blog about scientists and their interesting hobbies, which you can find here!
Dr. Lattin contributed some fun home science activities to the 2021 LSU College of Science Pursuit for Kids magazine.
As a postdoc, Dr. Lattin was a Board Member of Women In Science at Yale. WISAY supports women in STEM through advocacy, mentoring programs, community building and career development. As a board member, Dr. Lattin worked with the Yale Provost’s Office and the Center for Teaching and Learning to bring Story Collider to campus 28 Feb-1 March 2017 for several events related to science communication and outreach, including a night of science storytelling from Yale faculty and students.
