Diversity and Inclusion
The Lattin Lab strives to create an inclusive, respectful, intellectually challenging climate that embraces individual difference in race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, spirituality, socioeconomic status, disability, family status, experiences, opinions and ideas.
Principal Investigator Dr. Christine Lattin was raised by a single mother and was the first person in her family to attend a four-year college. It took her a long time to feel like a career in academic science was “for” people like her, and she remembers very well the financial and cultural struggles that come with being a first-generation college student.
A core tenet of our lab culture is that diverse perspectives are necessary for science to progress. Because of this, we highly encourage first-generation college students and students from groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields to apply to the lab at every level - undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral.

This poster is meant to show that racial justice and support for marginalized communities cannot be separated from the practice of science. We must actively work to recognize the obstacles that scientists (and potential scientists) from marginalized communities face, and dismantle structures of power that prevent them from succeeding. We must also consider the effects of our research and research choices on marginalized communities.
Posters are free to download and print, and you are welcome to modify them to fit your lab as long as they stay free and you share the pledge along with the files.
