The lab’s research on house sparrows and Eurasian tree sparrows is featured in Chapter 2 (“Why Are House Sparrows Nearly As Invasive As We Are?”) of David Stipp’s new non-fiction book, “Why Rats Laugh and Jellyfish Sleep: And Other Enchanting Stories of Evolution.” The book is available September 23, and also features chapters on fun scientific topics such as the smelliness of skunks, earthworm intelligence, and the role of grandmothers in human evolution.


Dr. Lattin was recently interviewed by the Lab Rat Chat podcast about her path in science and her research for their episode 27, “The Bird is More Than The Word.”


The lab’s research was recently featured on the LSU website in a story by Abbi Rocha Laymoun, “LSU Biologist Examines Animal Resilience to Stress.”


Our research showing the effects of social learning on house sparrow personality was highlighted in the November 2020 issue of Natural History magazine.


Dr. Lattin’s 2019 post-doctoral research using positron emission tomography (PET) scans to study receptors in the brains of living birds was featured by AAAS Mass Media Science & Technology Fellow Caitlin Looby in the New Orleans Advocate.


Dr. Lattin was interviewed by science writer Paige Jarreau about the stress response and her research for the LSU College of Science blog: “Being a Student Can be Stressful. Science Can Help.”


Dr. Lattin also spoke to journalist Virginia Gewin about how to deal with online harassment, which was featured in the Careers section of the October 18, 2018 issue of Nature.
